48 Hours in Vegas with Five Millennial Moms

By Patty Giedgowd

Here’s what I’d recommend after a whirlwind 48-hour trip to Vegas with five friends who swore they wanted sleep away from their kids-- knowing full well they’d get none, come home exhausted, and still decide it was worth it.

Where To Stay: Depends On the Vibe

Last August, my husband and I stayed at the Wynn for my 40th birthday. Slightly removed from the heart of the Strip, the Wynn’s atmosphere is calm, luxurious, and refined. The food options are excellent, the pool is serene, and it’s perfect for a relaxing retreat after all that walking. I’d recommend it to anyone looking for that kind of experience.

But this trip called for something different, because we girls were there for the boys — the Backstreet Boys.

Fueled by nostalgia and giddy with excitement — the kind only a girls' trip pumps into the air — the Cosmopolitan was feminine, flirty, and right in the middle of the action. It was exactly where we wanted to be. The rooms were comfortable, check-in was a breeze, and the on-site dining options were perfectly suited to everyone’s unique dietary preferences. And their iconic Chandelier Bar? Ideal for picture-taking.

Pro tip: There’s a Starbucks with mobile ordering right inside the Cosmopolitan.

Day 1: Lucky Ladies

One of the most “only in Vegas” moments of the trip happened hours before the concert. All five of us decided we wanted and deserved fresh blowouts, as time to ourselves is in short supply back at home. With two Drybars on opposite ends of the Strip, we were able to book same-day appointments for everyone at once. We would have had to book these weeks in advance for multiple chairs back at home. I plan on revisiting the next time I’m in town, as the service was quick and professional.

Dressed and ready for our evening, we grabbed appetizers and cocktails at Brera Osteria at the Venetian. No one had anything negative to say, and it’s an ideal location if you’re going to a concert at the Sphere.

The Main Event: Backstreet’s Back

Seeing a concert at the Sphere is not just a show, it’s a full-on sensory experience. I’ve been to three shows there, and each time I've felt fully immersed in the music, but even in silence, the visuals alone are worth the hype. It’s something you can only truly appreciate in Vegas, and it absolutely lived up to every expectation.

Pro tip: If you’re traveling for a special event, don’t rule out same-day deals on StubHub. Depending on the popularity of the show and how long the artist is in town, you can score incredible seats at a fraction of the price.

Late Night Vegas Classics

After the concert, Vegas does what it does best. We grabbed a late-night slice at Secret Pizza inside the Cosmopolitan (because of course it is). Hidden down an unmarked hallway, no signs, no seating, just great pizza and a line of people who all “know.” Yet another reason why the Cosmopolitan is getting 5/5 stars in my book.

Day 2: Taking It Easy

No Vegas trip is complete without the classics. We wandered over to watch the Bellagio Fountains, which somehow never get old, and took a peaceful stroll through the Bellagio Conservatory, where the indoor gardens change with the seasons. It’s free, beautiful, and a welcome reset from the sensory overload of the Strip.

Later that night, we leaned into a more laid-back, chaotic kind of fun at the Horseshoe. Ole Red delivered live music and a high-energy crowd, while Smelly Cat Karaoke was exactly as fun and unhinged as it sounds. If you’re looking for a sing-along, laugh-until-you-cry kind of night, this is the spot.
