How did you get started?
Clin-Path Associates was founded in the summer of 1974 by Drs. Larry Shaw and Louis Rosati. Dr. Shaw focused on building business relationships through outreach services, while Dr. Rosati concentrated on developing the laboratory at Desert Samaritan Hospital—the newest hospital in the Phoenix metro area at the time, having opened in 1973.
Today, that hospital is known as Banner Desert Medical Center and features 629 beds. Fifty years later, Clin-Path continues to provide pathology and laboratory medical directorship services to this facility, honoring a legacy of excellence and continuity in patient care.

Clin-Path Associates is a community-based practice and laboratory dedicated to providing pathology services exclusively within the state of Arizona. We are committed to delivering diagnostic accuracy and leveraging the full breadth and depth of our expertise for the benefit of our clients and patients. Above all, patient care drives our purpose and fuels our ambition to fulfill our role as Arizona’s premier pathology group.
Clin-Path: Locally Focused, Physician-Owned Excellence in Pathology
Clin-Path Associates consists of over 30 board certified pathologists. While groups of this size are typically corporate-owned, Clin-Path stands out as the largest physician-owned pathology group in Arizona—and one of the largest in the United States.
Our focus is on delivering specialized services locally, in contrast to the standardized approach of national "big box" laboratory chains. We've built strong, collaborative relationships with our clients, enabling us to provide personalized customer service. Unlike large pathology labs, we offer integrated outpatient and hospital pathology services tailored to the needs of our community. Our pathologists serve all of the large health systems in Arizona to include Banner Health, Common Spirit, Abrazo/Tenet Healthcare and Honor Health.
Before a biopsy reaches the pathologist for clinical evaluation, many Clin-Path laboratory team members have already handled the specimen. This level of teamwork, collaboration, and precision allows us to achieve an unmatched turnaround time—the speed at which we deliver diagnostic results to our clients. At Clin-Path, every employee understands the importance of performing at their best. Each biopsy represents a loved one anxiously awaiting results that could profoundly impact their health and future.

Recent Milestones and Growth Highlights
Although our group was founded in 1974, we launched our own laboratory, Clin-Path Diagnostics in April 2006. Since then, we've experienced significant growth, even while operating in a competitive landscape dominated by large national laboratories.
Our original facility spanned 4,000 square feet. Within ten years, we expanded to 10,000 square feet to meet increasing demand. In the fall of 2024, we relocated to a new, state-of-the-art facility in Cotton Center, now over 33,000 square feet—designed to support both current operations and future growth.
Since opening our laboratory in 2006, we've seen a more than 400% increase in both testing volume and client base, reflecting our commitment to excellence and personalized service.
